Welcome to the Our Lady of Pompei Church website! The word “welcome” is a perfect word to describe our parish.  We are a welcoming community of believers in the Roman Catholic tradition.  Our parish was founded in 1916 to minister to the many immigrants from Italy who came to work in the silk mills of Paterson.

To this day we are a close knit family of believers.  Some of our parishioners have ancestors who were here from the very beginning of our foundation as a parish.  

Many of our parishioners no longer live in the Stony Road section of Paterson, but they return each week for Mass and for the celebration of the other sacraments like baptisms and weddings.  They also return for the communal/social life of the parish, like our first annual Pasta night dinner that we had this past June.  

I’m blessed to say that my family has a long history with Pompei as well.  In the 1950’s and 1960’s one of my parents’ cousins was the pastor here.  His name was Rev. Silvio Mancini.  He was instrumental in bringing my parents from Italy.  And when they arrived here in the states, they lived with Father Mancini—right here in the rectory, along with other relatives.  And not only that, I and my three siblings also lived here in the rectory.  

From 1963 to 1967 Pompei was my home.  I was baptized in the newly constructed church (our present day church) by Father Mancini.  It was he who welcomed me to the faith in the sacrament of baptism.  And pompei has been a place of welcome ever since.  

On June 13, 2011, the feast of Saint Anthony, Bishop Serratelli graciously brought me back home to be the pastor of Pompei.  It has been a wonderful experience.  The community has welcomed me with open arms and has been very receptive and supportive of my priestly ministry.  I am truly blessed to minister here at Pompei.

This past year at Our Lady of Pompei has been filled with many blessings for me.  It is a wonderful, warm, faith filled community.  Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful with everything from helping with funerals to helping with maintenance in the church and rectory.  We just celebrated our first Pasta Night with live entertainment by Dave Sodano singing classic Frank Sinatra tunes and face painting with Hugame the clown.  It was a night of fun and food.

I look forward to September to start CCD and continue adult Bible study.  We have learned alot about the Scriptures and about our faith this past year, and we had a lot of fun and laughter in the process.
